[The Dawning of a New Day:]
A Precipice Magazine Mission/Vision Statement

This magazine was born out of the natural dialog of my particular community. By the grace of God I have found myself amongst a people passionately sincere about engaging the world with the love of Jesus Christ. It just so happens that we have all grown up in a period that has also seen the world begin to shift from a modern to a post-modern perspective. It's therefore a natural extension for us to talk about life under God in this particular period of Planet Earth's history; for it is our time.

But it should be noted that one thing Postmoderns hold dear is the idea that we can discover a richer present, in the past. The focus on only looking forward to some utopian ideal is a remnant of the modern era. So that leads me to the first main intention of this magazine; to be active in engaging the postmodern world, using the best of what all of Christian history has to tell us. And what a rich history we have to draw upon.

And this relates to the second main intention of the magazine; that being the process of dialoging with Christian brothers and sisters from a variety of backgrounds. Specifically the intention is for Protestants to start speaking more openly with their older siblings: the Orthodox and the Catholics. Of course within these broad stroke descriptions exist many diverse groups. The hope is that this cyberspace will serve as a forum for conversation between all of us.

And this rather naturally leads us to another implication of postmodern thinking- old categories shouldn't necessarily keep us apart any longer. That's because the postmodern perspective offers a decidedly different worldview; one that makes those old borders somewhat irrelevant. And this affects everything- including how we see each other.

What a postmodern Christian looks for is real, substantial faith- not just abstract doctrinal correctness. This of course doesn't deny the importance of theology; because clearly theology creates the culture of the Church. What we want to focus on however is faith "in practice"; otherwise known as orthopraxy. Because ultimately, the reality, or lack thereof, of our relationship with Jesus, is born out in the way we live our lives.

So there you have it, in brief. These are the two main thrusts. We are the community: breaking out...(i.e. pushing beyond the old, abstract and compartmentalized categories of the modern era...) and-

coming together...(i.e. finding and defining common spaces for us all to walk along side by side as the Church of Jesus Christ Universal.)

And implicit in this last statement is an invitation- to you- to everyone interested, to come and join the community of communities as we seek to know God, and each other. Shalom.
